Have you been curious to learn more about the breed's history? If you have looked around long enough, you will realize that a lot of the websites out there give you contradicting information about the history of the breed. What does Schipperke mean? Are they are a shepherd? When did they nearly go extinct? Were there color Schipperkes in the beginning?
These books are different from all of those sites. They don't try to tell you what the breed's history is, they show it to you. In the first book, there are around 40 articles written in the Chasse et Peche (A Belgian magazine) alone, and articles from many others around Europe, it lets you read the articles written by the founders of the breed during the time that the breed was being "reconstituted". It gives you the dates of the article, the author when possible, and the source, so you can understand what you are reading. The first book is over 250 long, and many of the articles within you will only find there.
The second book focuses on the UK and it is over 380 pages long. Here you can read the discussions between the two countries, see early pedigrees of English Schipperkes, and pictures of some of the first dogs they imported and bred. Again, each piece of information is cited and dated as accurately as possible.
Our third and fourth books cover the American history. Between the two they are over 700 pages long! They cover information first coming into the United States, as well as tracking the first Schipperkes to arrive here, and then the later rise of the Belgian type in America through Isabel Ormiston. It includes most of her writing about the breed, including her correspondence with various breeders in Europe.
All 4 books cover over 1,300 pages of original documented history of the Schipperke breed - for the most part, up to WWII only, but in the last book we covered it until the death of Isabel Ormiston.
It is the culmination of 20 years of research in the breed, research that is still going on today. If you want to seriously study the history of this breed, all 4 books are a must!
They are available on Barnes and Noble ONLINE. They can be bought through Amazon, but we do not recommend it as they offer it for more money and in paperback, while BN is hardback. You can find them for sale from the following link:
The Historical Schipperke, The Schipperke in Great Britain, is NOW AVAILABLE!! It is quite a bit larger than the last book, not just in numbers of pages, but we also had to condense the pages to get the number down that far. We are going to publish our table of contents below so you can see for yourself what you can find in this book. For now the book is either available through us, or Barnes and Noble - the simple reason being, they offer a reasonable price for the book in color. Our first book had very few color illustrations so having a copy in color was not a huge factor, this book has more images, so for now we have chosen to only offer it in a color format. If you would like to buy a copy or copies through us, please contact us through this website.
